30th Anniversary Celebration
Full Weekend Celebration was a Success!
Over the weekend of April 25-27, 2014, Friends House celebrated its 30th Anniversary! The first residents moved onto the Friends House campus in 1984. Now, 30 years later, there was much to rejoice over the three-day schedule of events. The weekend started off with a reception and presentation that included a history of Friends House from the perspective of long-time Friends House librarian and resident, Marie Schutz, whose husband Robert “Bob” Schutz was a member of the original founding group. A statement from FASE Board member Scott Smith about the current Friends House expansion needs and goals was read by Master of Ceremonies and FASE Board Clerk, Kay Kerriden. Margaret Sorrel, FASE Board member and Clerk of both the Development and Nominating Committees shared more about the current and future goals of Friends House. The evening was topped off by a performance from The Occidental Community Choir!
On Saturday, guests participated in self-guided “Walkabout Tours” of the beautiful Friends House campus and enjoyed a delicious luncheon on the Friends House Green. Exhibitions, performances and displays featuring the regular happenings of Friends House residents were taking place throughout the day. Saturday’s Celebration culminated in a Birthday Party with cake and all. Sunday morning guests and residents enjoyed a Hymn Sing, Quaker Meeting for Worship with social time and campus tour. Thank you to all of you who participated in the festivities!
